Fraud takes a devastating toll on the cost of insurance in the state
of Washington. The purpose of the Insurance Fraud Award Program is to
increase public awareness about the crime of insurance fraud and elicit
their participation in solving insurance fraud crimes. Everyone
feels the effects of fraud.
YOU CAN HELP
Fraud is a difficult-to-fight crime. Since 1996, PSSI has sponsored
a toll-free hotline for Washingtonians to report information about suspected
fraud activity. Perhaps you witnessed or heard something suspicious. You
might have discovered a clue that could help investigators. If so, call:
1-800-835-6422.
You don't have to be certain your information is important.
You don't even have to leave your name. Simply call the Fraud Hotline 24
hours a day, and your information will be given promptly to the appropriate
authorities. You could make the difference between a crime going
unsolved and putting an person committing fraud behind bars.
THE WASHINGTON FRAUD AWARD PROGRAM
PSSI offers a substantial fund from which cash awards are made to Fraud
Hotline callers who provide information that helps authorities arrest or
convict persons committing fraud. Fraud award nominations can be made by
any police chief, state police superintendent, sheriff, or prosecuting attorney
on behalf of an investigator who receives vital information from a private
citizen. (To be considered for an award, information must concern fraud
in Washington state.)
PSSI GOALS
PSSI and WIC seek to reduce loss by increasing fraud awareness and
teaching the public how to fight fraud.
PSSI PROGRAMS
PSSI has implemented several programs:
Grants that help local agencies obtain investigation equipment or
training
Comprehensive research funded through Foundation supporters
Statewide educational seminars for public officials and private industry
Media campaigns that teach how to reduce fraud
A toll-free statewide Fraud Hotline (1-800-835-6422)
yielding information that can lead to arrests and convictions.
PSSI relies solely on contributions for its programs and strives to maintain
broad-based support from private and professional agencies.
